Left Everything...

Today we'll read chapter 5:1-11. You'll discover how Jesus called his first disciples. I love this story. I actually did a post on it a few months ago, but God's Word is deep. Please share with us the other things God reveals to you.

Although, I've read this passage many times, some new thoughts occurred to me. One is, when Jesus said " Put out into the deep water and let down the nets..", this had a spiritual application. Peter and the others didn't really understand Jesus's divinity and He wanted them to have faith in Him and obey. Also, when Peter said, "Depart from me for I am a sinful man", after the fishing success, Peter saw the Lord, His power, His wisdom, His sinlessness and Peter saw himself, sinful, in contrast to the holiness of Christ. , so it most likely made him uncomfortable in Jesus's presence. Peter was very impulsive, but he then followed Jesus to begin to learn how to become fishers of men. I think he's strong-will, but then obedience, was the character trait that later gave him the courage to be persecuted and crucified up-side down.

Sorry, forgot my closing thought: when we let go of our self will, our fears, our busy work, whatever else we're clutching, then we can truly enter into a deep relationship with the Father. The blessing always follows obedience.
