We saw last week that we are called to "be holy" (check out some of your definitions of what that means), and now this week we've read several instances where Peter talks about what we should do: "rid yourselves of...," "abstain from sinful desires," "Live such good lives," "doing good," and "if you suffer for doing good." Using specific verses from what we've read so far, can you sum up why we should do good, according to what Peter is saying?
Bonus Question: What's the difference between being holy and doing good? Is there one? (This is a good Friday post, since you can keep thinking about it over the weekend!)

Doing Good

According to what Peter is saying, we should do good so that others may follow in our footsteps. We should do good so that others may see God working in us and so that we are acceptable to God.
I think that being holy and doing good go hand in hand in most instances. I think that being holy is doing good for all the right reasons..to glorify God. You should do good out of the kindness of your heart and because you want to...not because you are supposed to or because you will be noticed for doing good. That is when there is a difference between doing good and being holy.
Being Holy is a spiritual condition of our soul (Heb 10:10, Heb. 2:11, Romans 5:6-11). We have been made Holy by the blood of the lamb, not by whatever (good) we have done.
Doing good is a commandment, an obligation, and a by-product of the fact that Jesus is living in us. It is part of why God created us (Ephesians 2:8-10)
